Project: Urban +
Neighborhood: Capitol Hill
Status: Completed in 2013
Building Type: Townhouses + Existing Single Family Home
# Units: 3 New + Existing Single Family Home
Urban + reveals an idea about creating a new pattern with Seattle’s lowrise zones which provides additional density in a sensitive manner while preserving the character of the existing urban fabric. This idea is exemplified through Urban +, by adding three new townhomes behind an existing 1903 single-family home, which was lifted and moved 8.5 feet forward on the site to create adequate room behind.
The project is designed to maximize the potential of the property by saving the existing house and constructing new homes that source affordable reclaimed and local materials to enhance the high-performance building envelope. Urban + seeks a more visionary solution to infill development and multi-family housing.
Urban + was co-developed by Bradley Khouri, Principal and Founder of b9 architects, and gProjects.
